New Diet Pill

bbbbb

Contrave is the latest prescription diet pill to be approved by the Food and Drug administration. It is a combination of two drugs previously used for the treatment of depression and addiction. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 35% of adults in the U.S. are obese. Therefore, this drug comes as an important tool for doctors as well as citizens to combat obesity.

Contrave is recommended for individuals with a BMI of 30 or higher and should be used side by side with a good diet and regular exercise. However, persons with a BMI of 27 and higher can also get this prescription as long as they are suffering from weigh-related conditions such as type-2 diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure.

In a study involving 4,500 obese and over-weight candidates to test the effectiveness of this new diet pill, people who used Contrave lost more weight compared to those given placebos. For instance, 36 per cent of those who used contrave lost a minimum of 5% of their total body weight in comparison to 18% of those taking placebos. In diabetic patients, those who used contrave lost an average weight of 2%.

However, like any other prescription drugs, contrave comes with a warning of various side effects and serious health risks. Contrave is made from combining naltrexone which is approved for the treatment of opiate and alcohol addiction and bupropion which is used individually to treat seasonal effective disorders as well as reducing tobacco addiction. Since it contains an anti-depressant, the FDA warns of increased risks of suicidal behaviors and thoughts that are associated by these two separate drugs. Other side effects listed by the FDA concerning this drug include seizures, increased blood pressure, increased heart rate as well as incomplete trials about its risk of causing cardiovascular diseases.
